Mallory (Braaten) Poulson | Central Cass Class of 2005
Photographer
Mallory (Braaten) Poulson is a mom with a camera—aka a professional photographer. Check out her business on Facebook — MKP Photography Mallory Poulson.
Poulson, a 2005 Central Cass graduate, recalls high memories of participating in activities with students that had the same interests. “We had a musically talented group of kids during my high school years.” In addition to choir and the visual arts, Mallory participated in the Northwest Musical Festival, the variety show, swing choir and sang “The National Anthem” at sporting events.
Mallory earned a degree as a Registered Nurse. “I learned very quickly working on a dementia care unit how much music can carry you through the years.” There were many instances that the care staff would use music to interact with the residents —singing, dancing, playing instruments, etc. It was sure to put a smile on their faces.
Paths changed direction, and Poulson started offering photography services in 2022. Mallory shared, “Taking the basics and turning it into something I thoroughly enjoy doing now has been very rewarding.”
Poulson recommends that students should keep participating in the arts. “At this time in my life, doing photography brings me so much joy! It was never my career path but has ended up being a big part of it now!” Being a stay at home mom, music is also a way that Mallory connects with my children. She is currently teaching her daughter piano basics. “We listen to music frequently and belt it out!”
Mallory married her high school sweetheart, Kris Poulson. They have three children: Grady (11), Kenley (8) and Aubrey (6). They enjoy going to the lake during the summer and ALL summer activities! You will mostly find them on the pontoon or on any type of court or ball field. Mallory is essentially doing whatever her kids are doing! She also teaches religious education and is a member of the education committee at her church.
Thanks for sharing your story, Mallory
